The Gums (Gingiva) and Bone make up the foundation for your teeth.  In other words, if the Gums and the Bone are sick then the teeth don’t matter…because they don’t have a healthy place to function.

During your first appointment the gums and bone will be thoroughly evaluated.  This evaluation will help us to determine the health of your gums and bone.  There examination will help us score the health of the supporting tissues of your teeth.  Zero is healthy and five is severe gum disease.

Treatment will be based on your score.  If you are healthy then a basic dental cleaning will be the treatment.  If you fall in the 1 – 5 range, specific treatment will be designed to meet your needs.  Your treatment may require anywhere from one to five visits to be completed and in some cases requires surgical intervention.

In rare cases you may have to be referred to a specialist for treatment.  There are several highly qualified specialists in the area that can provide the level of care we feel is appropriate.
